Bringing the Country to Eugene

Photo taken by asterix611With the opening of the new Matthew Knight Arena last winter came new entertainment to the Eugene community. Last February, international sensation Elton John drew thousands to the arena to hear his timeless music followed by Cirque du Solei and various other performances. The opening of the arena has allowed the Eugene community to be apart of a scene that before was only in the Portland area.

Tonight America’s Country Music female vocalist of the year, Miranda Lambert is bringing the country twang and her cowgirl boots to Eugene. Her “Revolution Continues” tour includes openers, Randy Rogers Band and Justin Moore, all performers who are well known on the country circuit.

Miranda has recently released her newest album “For the Record” and her song “Baggage Claim” took a top 25 spot on Itunes this week. Her performance tonight will delight country fans and as Lambert says, “I know what it takes to bring it every night and give fans more than their money’s worth.”

Over the past couple weeks Twitter has blown up with people talking about the concert. Following the arena and the Daily Emerald on Twitter both have been advertising and even offering opportunities to win tickets to the show. I saw that the Daily Emerald was incorporating duck pride with the upcoming concert as they tweeted that they were offering free tickets for those who entered their spirit pictures to their websites’ contest.

With the tickets being moderately priced, students and local residents are able to attend the event and bring together the Eugene community.

Its been an amazing to see performers and events come to the Matthew Knight Arena and put Eugene on the map as a tour destination. Before the Matthew Knight Arena opened WOW Hall and the Cuthbert were the main venues in the Eugene area but can’t hold near the occupancy that the arena can.
