Halloween is just around the corner… at 5th Street Market!

20 Oct

As fall blows into Eugene, the leaves are changing and the scarves and jackets are being pulled out of the closets. Pumpkins are appearing everywhere and the stores are busting with Halloween candy.

One of my closest friends is an intern for 5th Street Market this fall and has loved telling me all about the upcoming Harvest Festival, so I thought I’d do a little sharing of my own. Every year around this time 5th Street Public Market changes to a fall wonderland, decorated with pumpkins and scarecrows. Beginning yesterday the stores and market come together to bring the community various specials and features to welcome the season!

The event is called the Harvest Festival on 5th and is a two week long celebration for the entire family, even the pets! Several of the shops including Gervais Salon, Curious K9 Boutique Hartwick’s and several others are offering special bargains and sales. For those who want a taste of fall, restaurants at the International Cafe have incorporated the season into their dishes and are offering various specials.

In preparation for the Howl-O-Ween dog festival on October 24th you can get your pooch their own costume for 15% off at Curious K9 Boutique and then enter it in the costume contest. Other activities include a parade, photos and a raffle. All profits from the Howl-0-Ween Dog festival go to supporting Greenhill Humane Society, the local animal shelter.

Other events being offered during the Harvest Festival at 5th include the Big Thing Fling on October 29th and 30th. Presented by Northwest Community, the Eugene Weekly and The Next Big Thing, the event is the perfect place to bring the family for face painting, live music and the chance to see the giant carved pumpkins spread throughout the market.

On Halloween you can bring the kids down to 5th Street from 4-8:30 p.m. for trick or treating, food and live music. The event provides a safe trick or treating environment and fun the whole family can enjoy.

5th Street Market has always been one of my favorite parts of Eugene because of its unique atmosphere and fun window shopping. The market does a great job of hosting a series of events for the community over the year. Businesses benefit from the events and more people can see the wonders that 5th Street Market hold.

Since my friend has become and intern with the marketplace I’ve noticed how 5th Street Market has taken advantage of social media. They are
constantly updating their twitter feed and have changed their Facebook page to gain more of a following. Its great to see local places in Eugene engage in social media to gain more business and establish a reputation in the Eugene community.
